A „Dal a Földről” egy gigantikus, közel 70 perces szimfonikus dalciklus két énekes szólistára és – ezúttal – 13 tagú kamarazenekarra, amelyben a szerző a klasszikus kínai költészet remekműveinek német átiratait használja fel, hogy a földi élet alapvető kérdéseiről, küzdelmeiről, örömeiről, nyomorúságáról és dicsőségéről énekeljen.
“The Song of the Earth” is a prodigious, 70-minute orchestral song cycle written for two voices and – in our case – a chamber ensemble of thirteen musicians. The composer draws on German adaptations of classical Chinese poems to interrogate the foundational questions, hardships, joys, anguish, and glory of our earthly existence.
